The
First Baptist Church of Meriden was established in 1786,
after a faction of the original Wallingford congregation
broke away and formed its own church here.
The
Meriden Baptists built this beautiful old New England church
in 1848. Sunday School, Adult Bible Study, Children's Choir and Sunday morning worship
service ar held here. Child care is available during the
services.
The
church has hosted the Meriden Soup Kitchen since 2005,
providing modern kitchen facilities, a large serving and
eating area with tables and chairs, several sizable storage
areas, bathrooms, and dishwashing facilities, along with
heating, lighting and hot water utilities. This is provided
to the MSK at no charge.
The Soup
Kitchen is enormously grateful to the parishioners of the
First Baptist Church, not only in providing this space but
also in absorbing the inevitable wear and tear on the
facility. We are sure that the innumerable clients who are
served here are also grateful to the church for providing
this home where they can obtain a daily hot meal, for many
the only meal of the day. |
